A local astronomer discovered several asteroids from the roof of this old villa in Barcelona, past in the 20th century. His will was for the house to be destined to civic uses. Up until recently it had been used as a nursery, but two years ago the nursery relocated to a new, larger space, and the villa was left empty.
Two days ago it was announced it would be demolished NEXT MONDAY in order to make room for a new civic centre for the neighbourhood, although there are no plans for when or how. The only "why" is that the house is "in a serious state of disrepair and ruin".
As I was curious about that, I went to see it with my own eyes. It definitely doesn't seem like the house is about to fall and harm anyone. It actually seems like someone will benefit economically from this urgent demolition.
It's quite sad: had this man lived in London, there would be a Blue Plaque on the house already (it would be Grade Listed too). Such a shame.
